Red Cross Seeks Volunteers In Yalobusha For Disaster Team

Volunteers from all over Yalobusha County are needed for a Red Cross disaster assistance team to be formed in the county.

The team will be trained to provide emergency as well as routine assistance in the event of a disaster, according to Joe Black, Yalobusha County Liaison Officer for the American Red Cross.

“We would like to have volunteers who have the time to dedicate to the team,” Black said.

Prospective team members can expect two to three days of specialized training at the Red Cross office in Tupelo as well as the standard training given to volunteers.

All American Red Cross disaster workers are trained to provide major disaster response functions of mass care, damage assessment and family services. This allows the entire organization to respond as efficiently as possible.

The training will be provided at no cost to the volunteers, he emphasized. But, there is a fee of around $6 for the required background investigation.

Teams will be set up in each of the six counties covered by the North Central Service District office in Oxford.
