Edward Scanlon stopped to help and ended up with a handful of snake Monday. Police and animal control were called to 1201 Campus when Barbara Person reported that the reptile had crawled  into her car. After several minutes of playing tug of war, Scanlon was able to pull the almost six-foot kingsnake from underneath the vehicle with some help from city employee Kinzie Hervey. No one was injured and Scanlon released the harmless snake in another part of town. Kingsnakes are considered beneficial since they eat other snakes and rodents.
