Poetry Out Loud Airs Tonight – August 27th

The statewide finals of the Poetry Out Loud Recitation Contest will be aired on Mississippi Public Broadcasting Tonight….Thursday,  August 27th  at 8:00pm.  This competition, presented in partnership with the National Endowment for the ArtsPoetry Foundation, is a national program that encourages high school students to learn about great poetry through memorization and performance. 

The competition was held in the auditorium at Mississippi Public Broadcasting on Friday, March 13th.  Water Valley High School senior, Shaniqua Wesley, was the winner of the contest, and the runner-up was Millicent Kennedy, a senior at the Mississippi School of the Arts in Brookhaven.  The televised program will feature two recitations from each of the nine state finalists, with the top four reciting one final poem.  The winner was selected by a panel of expert judges.
