Upgrades Continue At Substation

The Water Valley Electric Department worked during the early morning hours this weekend replacing six 600-amp blade disconnects and six lighting arrestors at the north substation near the old Big Yank building on Central Street. The latest work puts the 4.1 kV substation within about a day of being fully completed, according to Joe Newman, Manager of the Department. The substation serves all the businesses west of Main St. and about 35 percent of the residential population in an area from Lee to Dupuy Streets. Power was out from just after midnight until 2 a.m. Sunday morning for the work. The original substation was built in the 1960s and all the hardware was beginning to wear out.
