State Of Emergency Declared

GOVERNOR BARBOUR DECLARES STATE OF EMERGENCY IN ANTICIPATION OF SEVERE WINTER WEATHER
Jackson, Mississippi – Governor Haley Barbour today declared a state of emergency in anticipation that extreme and prolonged subfreezing temperatures will produce dangerous weather conditions across Mississippi.
“These conditions will increase the risk of personal harm or death,” Governor Barbour said. “I am very concerned that it may also result in an abnormally high demand and potential supply shortages for conventional heating fuels, and threaten the safety and well-being of the citizens and property throughout the State of Mississippi.”
The Governor urges people to be safe and acutely aware of the fire risks when using alternative heating devices in their homes, and to exercise the utmost caution.
The Governor has ordered state agencies to take all steps to protect people and property.
