Counterfeit Bills Passed In Area

The $5 bill at the top is real while the bottom bill is an obvious fake.

    Sheriff Lance Humphreys warned Yalobusha and Water Valley businesses to be on the lookout for counterfeit bills, particularly $5 bills and $100 bills.

    Humphreys said four or five businesses in Water Valley have received the funny money during the past week. While most of the funny money have been limited to $5 bills, one business had two counterfeit $100 bills.

    “The quality is poor,” Humphreys reported, adding that cashiers needs to examine all bills.

    “Most of what I have seen is pretty obvious. The color is off, margins are not registered and even the bill sizes may vary,” Humphreys advised.
