School Positions Will Be On The Ballot

August 4 marks the first day to qualify to run for school board races in both the Water Valley School District and Coffeeville School District.

Each district has a five-member board, and this year Position 4 will be on the ballot, according to Circuit Clerk Daryl Burney. The five-year terms in both districts are staggered, which means a post is on the ballot most years.

In Water Valley, incumbent Taylor Trusty currently serves in Position 4. Trusty reported he is working on his signature petition to seek another term. A candidate must obtain 50 signatures in his district to qualify.

In Coffeeville, Elsie Shaw currently serves as Position 4 board member. Both Shaw and Trusty’s terms expire at the end of the year.

The deadline to qualify is Friday, Sept. 3.

This year election day falls on November 2, with the ballot also including races for circuit judge, and a congressional race for  Mississippi’s 1st District.
