Volunteer firefighters from Yalobusha County were called out just before 4:30 p.m. Friday to assist Calhoun County volunteers at a “massive” woods fire near the intersection of Calhoun County Roads 284 and 285. Lafayette County and Forestry firefighters also assisted in battling the blaze. In the top photo volunteer George Crocker knocks down a rekindle just off CR 284. In the bottom photo Yalobusha firefighters are almost obscured by smoke as they await orders.
As a burn ban continues for Yalobusha County, the Water Valley Fire Department was called to a brush fire just before 3 a.m. Sunday morning on Wise St./Hwy. 315 West near the city limits.
