JACKSON – Legendary high school and college coach Bob Tyler attended a book signing held at Lemuria Books on December 16.  Tyler’s specialty signed copy of Gridiron Glory:  Celebrating OVER 100 Years of Mississippi High School Football can be purchased at Lemuria Books located in Banner Hall in Jackson.

A picture is worth a thousand words and for this new book these photos are worth 100 years of Mississippi High School football.  Gridiron Glory: Celebrating Over 100 Years of Mississippi High School Football entertains fans of Mississippi football in many never before seen images.  In their second release this fall, the family Frascogna celebrates over 100 years of Mississippi High School Football through memorable photos in this brand new book.

Through the use of photos, Gridiron Glory tells the inspiring story of legendary Mississippi high school coaches, players and the guardians of the greatest football talent in America.  Beginning with a photograph from 1905 featuring Chuck Trotter, Winona’s first quarterback, all the way to the 2009 State Championship 6-A game showcasing with nationally renowned South Panola, Gridiron Glory showcases vintage photography never-before seen by most Mississippi football enthusiasts.

Tyler’s high school teams played in 119 games and achieved a record of 94-16-6.   Tyler continued his career in the collegiate ranks, as receivers coach on Johnny Vaught’s Ole Miss Rebel staff. He later worked as an assistant under Bear Bryant at Alabama before moving to Mississippi State as offensive coordinator.

Tyler was named head coach of the Bulldogs in 1973 and led State to a 9-3 season in the tough Southeastern Conference as well as the 1974 Sun Bowl victory over North Carolina. During that season, his team beat perennial powerhouses in Georgia, and LSU. The Bulldogs’ record was 6-4-1 in 1975, and it was an impressive 9-2 in 1976, ending the season ranked number 20 in the AP poll. His team compiled a 5-6 record in 1977, and he went 6-5 in his final season with the Bulldogs.

In addition to photos from Coach Tyler’s high school career, the book showcases images from other legends such as Jack Carlisle, Ken Bramlett, Harper Davis, Sammy Dantone, Ennis Proctor, Dan Davis, Robert Morgan, Willie Collins, Jim Drewery, and W.C. Gorden along with many other coaches and players.

The book is authored by X.M. Frascogna, Jr. along with his sons Mike Frascogna III and Marty Frascogna, the popular authors of Gridiron Gold, Y’all vs Us and this season’s Bull Cyclone Sullivan and the Lions of Scooba, Mississippi.
