The twenty-ninth annual Watermelon Pageant will be held Saturday, March 26, 2011, in the Water Valley Civic Auditorium. The pageant, sponsored by the Junior Auxilary of Water Valley, will begin at 6 p.m.
Contestants must be residents of Yalobusha County, or live in Water Valley. Contestants will be judged solely on stage personality. Each Watermelon Queen candidate will be asked to introduce herself, but will not have to answer a question. There will be a $10 registration fee for all contestants.
In addition to Watermelon Queen, contests will be held to select “Petite Mister”, “Tiny Mister”, “Petite Miss”, “Little Miss”, “Miss Pre-Teen”, “Junior Miss”, and “Miss Teenage” Watermelon Royalty.
Judges will be informed that formal pageant wear is not required. The Civic Auditorim will be available for practice from 9-11 a.m. the day of the pageant.
Entries must be turned in by 7 p.m. on March 22. No late entries will be accepted. Entry forms are available in the Feb. 10 issue of the Herald.
Girls: Petite Miss, 3-4 year olds; Tiny Miss, 5-6 year olds; Little Miss, 7-8 year olds; Miss Pre-Teen, 9-11 year olds; Junior Miss, 12-14 year olds; Miss Teenage, 15-17 years olds; Watermelon Queen, 18-25 years old (winner receives a $250 scholarship)
Boys: Petite Mr., 3-4 year olds; Tiny Mr., 5-6 years old.
