Man Injured During Gunfire On Lee Street Friday Night

Water Valley Police responded to a shots fired call on Lee Street near the Fly Street intersection Friday just before 11 p.m. One man was transported by ambulance from the scene. His condition is unknown. It is unclear if he was hit by the gunfire or if he was injured in a fight that preceded the shots.

Sgt. Bubba Jackson (top photo, center) collected at least eight 9mm shell casings from the street as he and Officer Luther Folson and Officer S. Crenshaw swept the area. City Police were assisted by Yalobusha Deputies Ryan Winters and Stu Holliday (left and right in bottom photo). The neighborhood is the scene of frequent Police calls and this incident took place less than a block from the scene of a murder in March 2010. One resident told the Herald that she was “sick and tired of the thugs and drugs” that plague the area. See the video on YouTube.
