WATER VALLEY – Police are continuing their investigation into a melee that occurred Sunday night in the WVPD parking lot that is apparently part of an ongoing dispute between two groups of local youths and some adults.
The incident began around 8:45 after several people came to the Police station to report an assault earlier in the evening. Fights erupted between some in the crowd and Police called for additional help.
Off-duty Police, Sheriff’s Deputies, Constable Randy Simmons, and a Highway Patrolman responded to help bring the situation under control. Ambulances and emergency medical responders were called to the scene to treat several fight-related minor injuries and exposure to pepper spray.
Four adults and two juveniles were arrested and charged with various misdemeanor offenses including simple assault and disturbing the peace, according to Sgt. A. J. Hernandez of the WVPD.
Police and deputies were shuttling back and forth Monday night between the Police Department and the parking lot north of the car wash on Main Street talking to some of those involved.
Sgt. Hernandez reported the following additional law enforcement activity in Water Valley since July 4:
• Made two arrests for violation of the City dog ordinance;
• Took a report of violation of the City junk ordinance;
• Took a report of malicious mischief.
