Aldermen Raise Residential Garbage Rates In Coffeeville

COFFEEVILLE – Garbage collection fees went up July 7 for both households and businesses after Waste Services notified the Town of a rate increase.

Mayor Mack Burns read a letter from the company at the June Town Board meeting informing Town officials of a rate increase July 1. Aldermen voted 4-1 to raise the residential rate to $11.25 per month and the commercial rate to $11.50 per month,  an increase of 50 cents for both.

Voting for the motion were Aldermen Joe Bourn, Michael Ayers, Bryan McCullough, and George Miller. Alderwoman Eva Longstreet voted against, according to the minutes from the meeting.

Among other actions at the June 7 meeting, Aldermen:

• Authorized the Mayor to enter into a contract with American Municipal Services to collect delinquent fines.

Town Attorney Larry Maxey researched the company and had found good feedback for other municipalities in the area that are currently using the firm, the minutes state.

• Voted to seek bids for repair of the Town’s water well #1.

• Paid claims.

The next regular meeting of the Town Board was held July 5 and the next is scheduled for Aug. 2.
