Relay Time Is Close

WATER VALLEY–Final plans for the 2013 Yalobusha County Relay For Life (RFL) have been released.
This year’s event on Friday, April 26, will have 13 RFL teams who will serve a variety of delicious food items. Some of these items include egg rolls, Polish sausage, pulled pork sandwiches, smoked sausage, hot dogs, chili dogs, pulled pork nachos, crawfish, corn on the cob and potatoes, nachos and cheese sauce, chips, popcorn, sliced sweet treats, miniature desserts, lemonade, coffee, tea and water.
Teams have donated items for the silent auction that will be held during the night and will end at 10 p.m. Many teams will also sell various raffle tickets and other items from their tents. Lively and inspiring entertainment will be provided throughout the night by a host of talented performers.
Games and activities for children will begin at 4:30 p.m. Next the Survivor’s Dinner starts at 5 p.m. Opening ceremonies will follow at 6 p.m., with a welcome by Mayor Larry Hart, recognitions, opening prayer by Pastor Amos Sims, National Anthem by Carol Alexander, and the Raising of the American Flag by Water Valley Boy Scouts.
At 6:30 p.m. the cancer survivor’s names will be read and they will begin the first lap of the Relay. On the second lap the Survivor’s family and caregivers will join in. Then members from each relay team will start walking the track.
At 9 p.m. luminarias and sky lanterns will be lit in a silent and somber tribute for all those who are battling cancer and for the memory of those who have lost their battle. The event will end at 1 a.m. Saturday morning. Everyone is invited to come and enjoy the fun, food, fellowship, and remembrance of this special event.
