Chamber Banquet Includes Economic Update

WATER VALLEY– The annual Chamber of Commerce Banquet will be Thursday, April 25, at the WVHS multi-purpose building.
A citywide update on economic development will be presented including the state of the city address from Mayor Larry Hart and reports from representatives from three of the county’s largest employers– Borg-Warner, Windsor Foods and Valley Tool.
“We’ve worked hard to support businesses in the community,” outgoing Chamber President Daniel Martin told the Herald. While the Chamber is responsible for coordinating the annual Watermelon carnival and many other day-to-day activities, Martin pointed to a successful Christmas open house for Main Street shops and an ad campaign promoting “shop local” as helping provide a boost in the economy.
The Chamber also started a quarterly after-hours social hour for business professionals in Water Valley during the last year.
Martin will pass the gavel to Tyler Hill as the incoming chamber president Thursday night.
The slate of events also includes an announcement of other new officers and directors for 2013-2014 and the presentation of the 2013 Braswell Hatcher Award to a deserving couple.
Yalobusha County’s house band, The Sharecroppers, will entertain. Tickets are available at the Chamber of Commerce office, Mechanics Bank, Renasant Bank and Mid-Town Auto Parts. The banquet starts at 6:30 promptly.
