Candidates Square Off Tuesday in Ward 2 Election

WATER VALLEY– Voters in Ward 2 in Water Valley will return to the polls Tuesday to elect an alderman in a special election.
Fred White and Kathleen Hawkins are competing for the job after the winner of the May primary election resigned, setting up the special election.
Kathleen’s husband, Ray Hawkins had defeated White in the primary, but learned that the position could be a conflict with his current position as assistant police chief at the University Police Department at Ole Miss.
Aldermen appointed White to serve until the special election was scheduled on August 13.
The City of Water Valley City Clerk’s Office will be open Saturday, August 10, from 8 a.m. until noon for the purpose of absentee voting for Ward 2 election. Absentee ballots cannot be cast in this contest after Saturday.
The polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. in the hallway of the Yalobusha County Court House on Tuesday, August 13.
