Main Street Shops Kick Off Festive Season

WATER VALLEY – The holidays are just around the corner and downtown merchants are kicking off the festive season with an open house celebration this Saturday.
Cool temps and sunny skies should make for a perfect day of downtown shopping with 24 local merchants participating.
There will be door prizes, music, gift-wrapping, refreshments and a whole lot of bargains from one end to the other, according to the Water Valley Area Chamber of Commerce and the Water Valley Main Street Association, who are sponsoring the event.
“Shop local first for the coming holiday season” is the theme and Water Valley’s downtown business owners are working hard to make that happen by offering a first class collection of merchandise from the biggest selection of stores in years.
There are gifts for everyone on your list. Take a look at the special section included inside this week’s Herald for some ideas. And, take a few minutes Saturday and visit each business. You might be surprised by what you find and you’ll have a chance to win prizes including a 42-inch flat screen television.
When you purchase something from one of the participating businesses, you will receive a grid sheet with a list of the businesses. On the back of the sheet there is a list of door prizes. In order to be registered for the prizes, you must visit at least five participating businesses and get your card marked. You will then be registered for the door prizes that are being given away by the businesses marked on your card.
Anyone who visits at least 10 businesses and has their grid sheet marked in the appropriate columns will be registered for the Grand Prize, a 42-inch flat screen television from The Water Valley Chamber of Commerce and Water Valley Main Street.
Cards must be turned in between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. at the Chamber of Commerce tent located in front of the main branch of Mechanics Bank on Main Street. You must be 18 to enter the drawing.
The participating businesses are 2 Allure, Between Friends, B.T.C. Old-Fashioned Grocery, Bozarts Gallery, Crawdad Hole, Doris’ Flowers & Gifts, Le Mojo’s Bakery, J. Clayton’s Art Gallery, Jay Gees,
J’s on Main, Magnolia Home Furnishings, Main Attraction, O’Tuck Supply, Pace Pottery, Pizza Getti,
Pride and Joy, Sartain’s True Value, Turnage Drug Store, The Caboose Boutique, The Velvet Glove, Varner Printing & Office Supply, Village Flower Shoppe and Yalo Studio.
And, there is more shopping fun coming up in December as downtown merchants hold Christmas in the Valley after hours shopping on Dec. 6. Participating businesses will remain open until 8 p.m.
There will also be art shows at the galleries along with carriage rides, music and a kids’ corner.
Water Valley’s annual Christmas parade will be the next day, Saturday, Dec. 7 beginning at 1 p.m.
