Presented by local Friends of the Library volunteers, the program’s mission is closely aligned with Mrs. Bryant’s goal of encouraging early learning by reading to students in all 82 counties of Mississippi throughout 2014. Her focus is on grades K-3 and the visit to Water Valley in Yalobusha County will be the 49th county Mrs. Bryant has visited.
“We are thrilled that Mrs. Bryant’s visit coincides with the start of our summer program,” said Friends of the Library board member Millicent Nicholas. “We share her passion and enthusiasm for encouraging children to begin enjoying books and reading as early as possible. Planting those seeds now is the best way to encourage lifelong learning.”
The Summer Reading Program runs for six consecutive Wednesdays, at 10 a.m. at the Blackmur Memorial Library, beginning June 18 through July 23. Participation is free and is open to all the community’s children and their families.
