WATER VALLEY – A husband and wife are behind bars after the sheriff’s department raided a house on Eckford Street in Water Valley last Tuesday night, Nov. 17.

Amber Maureen Burdun, age 28, and Ameer Abdulla Burdun, age 38, were arrested after the sheriff’s department executed a search warrant on their residence. Both face eight felony charges, including  possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, conspiracy to sell methamphetamine, possession of a weapon by a convicted felon and three counts of sale of methamphetamine. A $150,000 bond was set in justice court for both defendants.

“There was a lot of traffic at this residence, we launched an investigation back in April after receiving numerous complaints from neighbors and people in the area,” Humphreys said about the arrests. The sheriff also said the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics and Water Valley police officer Austin Tallent helped extensively with the case.

“We invested a lot of resources in this case, this was a high traffic area for narcotics with both local and out-of-town customers,” Humphreys told the Herald. He also said multiple customers were targeted by law enforcement after making purchases at the residence.

“Just in the last 30 days, we have arrested 10 people leaving this residence on Eckford Street,” the sheriff told the Herald. The charges in the arrests include possession of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana, intent to sell a controlled substance, felon in possession of a weapon, possession of drug paraphernalia, DUI and driving with a suspended driver’s license.

Humphreys said tips from the public are important to help combat an ongoing battle against illegal drugs in the county and his department works the cases as fast as possible.

“We’ve got several more drug houses just like this operating in the county. We have already started on the next one,” Humphreys added.
