Main Street Meeting Reflects Sentiment Of Success

WATER VALLEY – The annual meeting for the Water Valley Main Street Association was held Thursday night, and was a brief time to celebrate and reflect on eight years of success. The meeting was held at the Crawdad Hole, a business Main Street Manager Mickey Howley described as the epitome of Main Street revitalization.
“This business is what Main Street is all about, taking something that people thought should have been bulldozed and thrown away and bringing it back to the light of day,” Howley said.
Howley’s comments also came on the heels of a trip two days earlier to the White House as he presented the success story of Water Valley for the white house and related cabinet agencies and non-profits including Project for Public Spaces and the National Main Street in an attempt to help better define the elements for a public/private partnership that brings success for small-town revitalizations.
Thursday’s meeting also followed a beautiful fall day with plenty of Main Street activity as workers near completion on the mammoth renovation for the Mechanics Bank span of buildings, a huge shipment of steel arrived for Terry Warren’s Wagner building renovation and jack hammers were running at the newspaper office for a much-needed facelift.
Also speaking at the Main Street meeting was District Three supervisor Lee McMinn, who announced the Economic Development Foundation will fund a study to help project future growth in Water Valley and Yalobusha County.
As for official business conducted at the meeting, Howley announced the new officers who will lead the program including Coulter Fussell as president, Daryl Burney as vice-president and board members starting new terms include Cinnamon Foster, Laurie Stirratt and Jeff Bynum.
Board members recognized Thursday night who are rotating off the Main Street board include Bill Pullen, Jessie Gurner and James Peacock.
“They have really helped and been part of Main Street,” Howley said.
