Drug Arrests Made Near School

WATER VALLEY – Three people face drug charges after the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics (MBN) and Yalobusha County deputies executed a search warrant at 702 Markette Street last week. Sheriff Lance Humphreys reported Mark Reese, Joshua Leigh and Chelsea Parmenter were arrested after authorities found drugs and guns in the residence. The warrant stemmed from numerous complaints from the public of Reese and Leigh allegedly selling methamphetamine next to the high school.
Reese and Leigh are charged with possession of methamphetamine with intent, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of a stolen firearm and conspiracy to sell methamphetamine. Leigh is also charged with failure to register as a sex offender.
“Leigh was also a sex offender living within several hundred feet from the school and also has several prior arrests for failing to register as a sex offender,” Humphreys said.
Parmenter is charged with possession of methamphetamine with intent.
Humphreys said his department was assisting MBN in the case, along with officers from the Water Valley Police Department.
Both Leigh and Reese remain in custody in the Yalobusha County Jail. Parmenter has posted bond.
In other law enforcement news, Humphreys reported deputies have recovered several items stolen from a shop on County Road 118. Humphreys said automotive parts were taken from the shop in the burglary that was reported last Wednesday. The sheriff stated Eric Stacy has been charged with burglary and possession of stolen property in connection with the crime.
