Before anyone has to ask, yes it’s me! I am the guy who was the high school principal and then wasn’t anymore. The guy who has taken up a lot of press in this very newspaper and has spent a little more time on the front page than I would have ever wanted. But this is a reminder that things do not always go as intended, so we move on and see what comes next.
My wife and I, along with our two daughters, are still proud residents of this wonderful community and continue to love everything it has to offer. As a brief update, for the next few months I will be working as a graduate assistant in the School of Education at the University of Mississippi as I work to complete my Ph.D.
Also, as you can probably tell by now, David Howell has been gracious enough to give me an opportunity to do some writing for the North Mississippi Herald.
I have a few projects I have begun working on, which will hopefully be coming to you very soon. I am grateful for the chance and I hope I can live up to the standards in the long, wonderful history of this publication. I wanted to take advantage of this forum to briefly say a few things to some of people who have meant so much to me in recent months.
First of all, I am grateful to the Water Valley School District Board of Trustees for taking a chance on me and giving me the opportunity to play a role in this school district. To the incredible staff at Water Valley High School, I am thankful for the opportunity to have served alongside you in the noble task of educating our young people. You welcomed in with open arms and made me feel like a part of the family from day one, and your dedication and support through so many challenges will never be forgotten.
I love and miss each one of you and wish you nothing but the best! Stay strong and keep fighting for our students every single day!
To our students, do not let anyone tell you that you are second-rate or incapable of anything. I have seen your potential and your abilities and I say to you, believe in yourselves and be great! Be open to the knowledge and skills your teachers have for you and be willing to work hard in everything you do and you WILL accomplish great things and change the world for the better!
Lastly, to the people of this community, who have shown nothing but unwavering love and support in the face of uncertainty and difficulty to myself and my family, I will never truly find the words to describe how thankful I am to each of you. You have taken my wife and children in as though they were your own and made a home for them here.
You have given graciously of yourselves without so much as a second thought, and you have helped us transition through a time of distress and anxiety. Thank you so much, from the bottom of my heart. I do not know what the future holds for the Geurin family in the months to come, but I do know, without a doubt that we are better off now for getting to spend a portion of our lives (even if it is but a small one) in this extraordinary community. Thank you Water Valley for everything you have done for us, it means more than you will ever know!
