WV Store Awarded For Going The Extra Mile To Promote MBS Blood Drives
WATER VALLEY – Mississippi Blood Services (MBS) holds hundreds of blood drives all over the state and sees thousands of donors during the year.
“Our organization depends on every individual who donates and every organization that allows us to set up a blood drive,” reported Merle Eldridge, MBS Manager of Public Relations and Communications. “But throughout the year, there are those who go that extra mile, who work to increase the units collected, strive to reach others on our behalf and work to ensure their communities have the blood that is needed on a day-to-day and patient-to-patient basis,” Eldridge added.
During the Mississippi Blood Services annual meeting, MBS was proud to honor those groups and individuals.
Community blood drives are an essential part of Mississippi Blood Services’ scheduled drives, especially when school is not in session.
“While many places don’t mind us parking our bus in the back of their parking lots, few want to promote the drives. Don Larson of Larson’s Piggly Wiggly in Water Valley steps up and asks what can be done to help publicize their drives; this is a show of true community support. He asks for promotional materials which includes posters that are displayed in the store and flyers that are passed out to the customers,” Eldridge explained.
The effort involves the management and staff of Larson’s Piggly Wiggly in Water Valley and makes them a fundamental part of the community drive.
“We are proud to announce that Larson’s Piggly Wiggly has been awarded MBS’s 2015 Community Drive of the Year Award,” Eldridge told the Herald.
Don Larson accepted the award on behalf of Larson’s Piggly Wiggly.
