AIMS Tournament Will Bring Thousands To County
Planning is underway for the county’s second largest tourist event, the north state qualifier for Archery in Mississippi Schools. COFFEEVILLE – Some 3,000 boys and girls from central and north Mississippi plus approximately 2,000 spectators, teachers. and parents will attend the 2016 Aims North State Qualifier at the Yalobusha County Multi-Purpose Building in Coffeeville March 21-23. The State Championship will follow the North State Qualifier from April 4-8 in Jackson.
“This event represents the second largest tourist attraction for our county, with the Water Valley Watermelon Carnival being the biggest attraction,” said Bob Tyler, who heads some special projects for the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks, sponsor of the program. Scheduled for the third year, the tournament is hosted locally by the Yalobusha County Board of Supervisors and the Yalobusha County Economic Development and Tourism District Board.
“Now, we have close to 80,000 Mississippi boys and girls involved in archery, a sport that attracts all ages beginning with the elementary school,” said Tyler. Heading the state organization is Waldo Cleland of Columbus, who is a four-time National Champion and a one-time world champ.
