Police Investigate A Pair Of Main Street Burglaries

WATER VALLEY – The Water Valley Police Department continues to investigate a pair of early morning burglaries on Main Street. Chief Mike King reported Citgo Tobacco World and Main Street Liquor were targeted just before 4 a.m. on March 10 by three suspects.
The thieves used sledgehammers and pry bars, first gaining entry into Citgo Tobacco World by entering the south wall, which is a storage room and entryway into the coolers, according to King. A significant amount of cash was reported missing from the Citgo Tobacco World, as an interior safe and ATM was targeted. King reported damage to the building, including the surveillance and alarm system.
After exiting the first business, the group then forced entry through the front door of Main Street Liquor and attempted to break into a safe in this business. Officers responded to an alarm call and King said video surveillance showed the three thieves monitoring traffic on Main Street while attempting to pry open the safe inside the building.
“They made a fast exit through the back door as the first officer arrived,” King told the Herald. Video footage from the store’s video surveillance showed three people, one possibly a female, covered from head to toe and wearing gloves. The trio were unable to take anything from the second business.
“They had it planned out,” King said, “it appeared they were experienced.”
King also said the businesses are owned by the same owner, and the tactic appears similar to an unsuccessful attempt to break into the convenience store located on the Coffeeville Bypass earlier in the month. That store is also owned by the same person, according to his report.
