Deputies Make Drug Arrest After Brief Scuffle

OAKLAND – A traffic stop Saturday night on Hickory Street in Oakland led to multiple drug arrests and a scuffle where deputies sustained minor injuries, according to Sheriff Lance Humphreys.
Humphreys reported Reginald Eggleston was stopped by deputy Thomas West for improper equipment and appeared very nervous. He consented to a search and when he stepped out of his vehicle, deputies noticed a bag of marijuana that was hanging out of the front zipper of his pants.
“We tried to cuff him and he started fighting to try and get away,” Humphreys told the Herald. After the scuffle, Eggleston was cuffed and two bags of crack were also discovered in his waist area along with another bag of marijuana in his mouth. Eggleston was charged with possession of cocaine with intent to distribute, possession of marijuana, resisting arrest and improper equipment
“After talking to him, we learned that his intention was allegedly to meet Joshua Lott by the bank for a narcotics transaction,” Humphreys added. Lott was taken into custody walking in front of the bank and was charged with conspiracy to possess a controlled substance.
Humphreys said the arrests Saturday night were part of a busy week that kept deputies working around the clock.
“Unfortunately the pretty weather, full moon and holiday weekend equated to a busy work load for my guys,” Humphreys added.
The sheriff also reported an early morning break-in Tuesday morning remains under investigation and he is reaching out to the public for tips. Humphreys reported Sylva Rena Grocery was targeted around 3:45 a.m.
“The perpetrator busted out the front door and took a small amount of cash,” Humphreys told the Herald. He urges anyone with information about the break-in or any other illegal activity in the county to contact the Yalobusha County Crime-stoppers at 1-866-933-TIPS or 473-4935 or send an email to: TIPS@Yalobusha County.net. Crimestoppers will pay up to $1,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspect or suspects.
Other activity reported by the sheriff included:
• Crystal Hinton was arrested at the Valley Motel in Water Valley on March 20. She was charged with driving on the wrong side of the road and DUI after she allegedly left the scene of a one-vehicle rollover on Hwy. 315, near County Road 118. The accident was one of three worked by deputies on the night of March 19 and in the early morning hours of March 20. Alcohol was cited as a contributing factor in all three accidents, according to the sheriff.
• Markee Williams was stopped for improper equipment on Frostland Drive in Water Valley and gave deputies consent to search on March 18. A bag of marijuana and two bags of powder cocaine were found on his person and he was charged with improper equipment, no driver’s license, possession of cocaine and marijuana. Williams was also wearing a MDOC house arrest ankle monitor.
• Shannon Brown was arrested on March 19 for DUI and possession of paraphernalia at a safety checkpoint on Hwy. 32 at County Road 100.
• Patsy Hervey was arrested on March 19 for driving with a suspended driver’s license at a safety checkpoint on Hwy. 32 at County Road 100.
• Timasha Williams was arrested on March 19 for no driver’s license at a safety checkpoint on Hwy. 32 at County Road 100.
• Yashunda Rowsey was arrested on March 19 for suspended driver’s license at the same safety checkpoint.
• Javarious Brown was arrested on March 18 for possession of paraphernalia and expired driver’s license.
