Water Valley electric department workers scrambled to replace a utility pole that feeds electricity to BorgWarner Monday afternoon after a weekend fire damaged the pole. Water Valley Electric Department Manager Andy Hall reported the utility pole on Gore Street in Morris trailer parker was still smoldering Monday morning and was in immediate danger of breaking. The pole is part of a dedicated line that runs from the substation directly to BorgWarner and Hall scheduled a two-hour outage for the repair.
It took Hall’s crew an hour and 55 minutes to set a second pole and swap the three-phase electric lines.
“We scheduled the outage from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m., and BorgWarner released the first shift workers a little early with plans to have the equipment back up and going for the second shift, which starts at 3 p.m.” Hall told the Herald.
The fire appeared to have been purposely set in a bushy area adjacent to the city’s electric substation and Hall speculated that resin inside the pole served as an accelerate that fueled the fire.
