County’s Population Shows Light Decline Since 2010

WATER VALLEY – The population of Yalobusha County and its three municipalities have declined slightly since the 2010 Census, according to U.S. Census Bureau estimates.
The Census Bureau’s Fact Finder website estimates Yalobusha County’s population that stood at 12,678 in the 2010 Census has dropped by 231 in 2015. Water Valley’s population dropped by 12 people from 3,392 to 3,380 during the five year-period; Coffeeville decreased 32 people, from 905 to 872; and Oakland by 13, from 527 to 514 people.
Lafayette was the only county contiguous to Yalobusha that gained population, from 47,351 in 2010 to 53,154 last year, gaining almost 5,800 people in five years.
Oxford, recently cited as the municipality with the state’s fastest growth rate, grew by 3,398 people from 18,916 in 2010 to 22,314 in 2015.
Lafayette’s smaller municipalities recorded smaller gains, the town of Abbeville from 419 to 435 and Taylor village from 322 to 348.
The remaining contiguous counties and their municipalities all showed declines:
• Panola County from 34,707 to 34,167; Batesville from 7,463 to 7,385.
• Tallahatchie County from 15,378 to 14,588 and Charleston from 2,193 to 2,048.
• Grenada County from 21,906 to 21,578; and City of Grenada from 13,092 to 12,900.
• Calhoun County from 14,962 to 14,717; Bruce from 1,939 to 1,906; Calhoun City from 1,774 to 1,739; Pittsboro from 202 to 199.
