COFFEEVILLE – A new garbage collection clerk was hired last Friday during a recessed Board of Supervisors meeting to replace Donna Massey. Supervisors voted 4-0 to hire Casey Byford for the position, which also includes the duties of receiving clerk and rubbish landfill clerk.
The hiring came at the end of a recessed meeting at the Coffeeville courthouse and Byford started work several hours later. Speaking after the meeting, Washington told the Herald that supervisors voted 4-0 to hire Byford after interviewing five candidates during Friday’s meeting. District 3 Supervisor Lee McMinn was out of town and absent from the meeting.
Washington also told the Herald that conducting the interview process during the meeting with all supervisors present was a fair way to collectively make a decision on the hire. Each interview lasted about 20-30 minutes and only the four supervisors remained in the board room during the session.
The hiring follows the July 5 decision by supervisors to move the garbage collection office to the Coffeeville courthouse. With the change county officials are asking garbage customers to note the new address when making payments by mail.
The new address is: Yalobusha County Gar-bage, P.O. Box 260, Coffee-ville, MS 38922.
