Police Make Routine Arrests

A Coffeeville man was arrested for felony DUI and driving with a suspended driver’s license after he passed out behind the wheel of his car at a residence on Eckford Street. James Timothy Harris was taken into custody by Water Valley police on August 4 after an officer was dispatched to the residence. In the crime report, the officer wrote that Harris was behind the steering wheel with his foot on the brake and engine running. The officer reported that he put the car in park before trying to wake up Harris. 

He was transported to the police department and issued the  citations before being booked in the Yalobusha County Jail. A pint bottle of Segrams Extra Dry Gin was recovered as evidence.

Other activity reported by Water Valley police during the month of August include:

• Anthony McMinn of Olive Branch was charged with aggravated domestic assault after a disturbance on Wagner Street on August 1. According to the police report, the victim told authorities she had been assaulted by McMinn after she told him he could not stay at her residence after he was dropped off by Angel Taxi. The victim sustained multiple cuts and bruises during the altercation.

• A warrant was issued for the arrest of Ken Mix for petit larceny and breaking and entering a dwelling after he allegedly forced entry into a residence at 300 Blackmur Drive on August 6. Mix took a cell phone from the homeowner following a scuffle, according to the police report. The victim told authorities that she had been in a relationship with Mix, but ended it a week earlier. 

• Took a report of a stolen car stereo at 407 North Main Street on August 8. The victim told authorities that someone had taken his car to do repair work and when he got it back, the radio valued at $199 was missing. The investigation hit a snag when the owner was not sure of the name of the person who had taken the car for repair work. The case remains open.

• Curtis Allison of Eckford street was arrested for domestic aggravated assault after officers were dispatched to his residence on August 8. The victim told police that she was sitting on the couch when Allison went into a rage, grabbing her neck and striking her with a portable breathing machine. Allison was booked in the Yalobusha County Jail. The victim was treated for injuries in the assault.

• Picked up a dog following a complaint from a business owner on South Main Street on August 14.. The complainant told police that the dog had turned over garbage cans and was strewing garbage all over his property. The owner tied the dog to a pole until police arrived. Police contacted the dog’s owners, who stated they didn’t want the dog and planned on taking the dog off. The dog was picked up by animal control.

• Water Valley Chief Mike King also reported an unusually quiet Watermelon carnival weekend, noting only one arrest was made.
