Thursday’s ground breaking for Base Camp Coding Academy’s new facility, Everest, will be a historic event as work will start on Mississippi’s first Rural Education and Innovative Hub. Everest will house Base Camp Coding Academy, a Mississippi-based non-profit that provides under-advantaged youth with fast-faced, focused vocational training in computer programming to support the technology needs of local and regional employers. Everest will also house classes for Northwest Mississippi Community College.
On Tuesday Facebook announced that it will be funding three Base Camp Coding Academy Scholarships for two consecutive years which will fund six students’ educations. Facebook will have representatives at the groundbreaking event to present the scholarship funding and speak about the impact that Everest and Base Camp are going to have on Northwest Mississippi.
The groundbreaking is scheduled at 11 a.m., rain or shine. The building is located in Water Valley at 802 Central Street.
