The Grand Jury in the Second Judicial District (Water Valley) issued indictments on 40 true bills during the September session. Indictments that have been served and not been previously reported in the Herald include:
• Kimberly Ann Wilkins was indicted for one count for the sale of a controlled substance. According to the court documents, Wilkins sold methamphetamine to a confidential informant on February 3, 2021. The defendant was previously convicted for the delivery of cocaine and sentenced in 2003, was indicted as a recidivist offender under Section 41-29-147. If convicted she may be imprisoned for twice the term otherwise authorized and fined an amount up to twice that otherwise authorized. With two prior felony convictions, she was also indicted under Section 99-19-81 which means if convicted, she will be sentenced to the maximum term of imprisonment for the charges. Wilkins’ previous convictions also includes a burglary in 2003.
• Johnno Jenkins was indicted for one count of conspiracy and one count of possession of a controlled substance. According to court documents Jenkins attempted to bring methamphetamine into the county jail on Nov. 18, 2020. He also conspired with Taylor Faith Buford Morris to commit the crime. Jenkins has two prior felony convictions and was also indicted under Section 19-19-81 which means if convicted, he will be sentenced to the maximum term of imprisonment for the charges. Jenkins was previously indicted for aggravated assault in 2015 and for accessory after the fact in an aggravated assault case in Tallahatchie County in 2020.
• Roddarius Armond Torrance was indicted for the possession of a controlled substance. Court documents stated that the offense occurred on Dec. 28, 2020, and involved more than 30 grams of marijuana but less than 250 grams.
• Christopher Vernell Brooks was indicted for one count for the possession of a controlled substance and one count of possession of a weapon by a convicted felon. Court documents stated that he had methamphetamine and brass knuckles in his possession on Nov. 4, 2020.
• Jerome Kametries Jenkins was indicted for one count for the possession of a weapon by a convicted felon. Court documents stated that Jenkins had a .380 pistol in his possession on Jan. 30, 2021.
• Thomas Earl Patterson, Jr. was indicted for one count for the possession of a controlled substance. Court documents show that Patterson had methamphetamine in his possession on Jan. 6, 2021.
• Eric Demontez Caldwell was indicted for one count for the possession of a controlled substance. Court documents show that Caldwell had more than 30 grams, but less than 250 grams of marijuana in his possession on Nov. 19, 2020.
• Danny Deandre Caldwell was indicted for one count of malicious mischief. Court documents show that Caldwell damaged personal property belonging to Taniya McLaughlin having a value in excess of $1,000 but less than $5,000 on May 28, 2021.
• Danny Deandre Caldwell was indicted for one count of burglary of a dwelling and one count of aggravated assault. Court documents show that Caldwell entered a residence on June 5, 2021. He also attempted to cause bodily harm by firing a 9mm firearm into the bathroom door where the victim was located and missed.
• Joe Lee Conard was indicted for one count of felon in possession of a firearm. Court documents show Conard was in possession of a Glock Model 43 pistol on May 22, 2021. Conard has six previous felony convictions and was indicted as a habitual offender under Section 99-19-83. If convicted he faces a life sentence.
• Timothy R Turner was convicted for one count for a convicted felon in possession of a firearm. The court documents show Turner was in possession of a Ruger .22 firearm on Dec. 16, 2020. Turner has seven prior felony convictions including manslaughter, burglary, aggravated assault and others. He was indicted as a habitual offender under Section 99-19-83. If convicted he faces a life sentence.
• Jonathan Lee Norwood was indicted for one count of sexual battery and one count for gratification of lust. The court documents shows the incidents occurred on May 23 and May 25, 2021 involving a child under 14 years of age.
The Grand Jury in the First Judicial District issued indictments on nine true bills during the September session. Indictments that have been served and not previously reported in the Herald include:
• Larry E. Taylor was indicted for one count of gratification of lust. The court documents report that the offense occurred on or about June 11, 2021, with a child under the age of 16 years old.
• Anthony Lavell Spearman was indicted for one count for the sale of a controlled substance on May 7, 2020. According to the court document, Spearman sold methamphetamine to a confidential informant. Spearman was indicted as a habitual offender under Section 99-19-83 and if convicted, faces life in prison. His prior felony convictions include burglary of a dwelling in 1988 and again in 1998 and one count of aggravated assault in 1997.
• Melinda Marshelle Purnell was indicted for two counts for the sale of a controlled substance, one count on October 29, 2020, and the second on November 10, 2020. According to the indictment, both transactions involved selling cocaine to a confidential informant. Purnell, who was previously convicted of possession of cocaine and sentenced in 2015, was indicted as a recidivist offender under Section 41-29-147. If convicted she may be imprisoned for twice the term otherwise authorized and fined an amount up to twice that otherwise authorized.
