Arrest Made In Campground Killing

Authorities responded to a fatal shooting at Wallace Creek Campground on Sept. 28.

ENID LAKE – A 64-year old man was killed at Wallace Creek Campground at Enid Lake last Thursday, Sept. 28. Yalobusha County Coroner Ronnie Stark reported David Young was fatally shot inside a camper. Authorities were dispatched at 6:24 p.m. after the shooter called 911 stating that she had shot her boyfriend in the head.

Yalobusha County Sheriff Jerimaine Gooch reported that Dorris Charlebois was taken into custody at the scene and has been charged with first degree murder. He also stated that Young and Charlebois had been living in the camper moving from campground to campground. Young was originally from the state of Washington. Charlebois is from the Hernando area.

Authorities believe heavy alcohol consumption was a contributing factor in the shooting.

“There were no signs of a struggle,” Gooch said. “We are still trying to determine a motive. This remains an active investigation.”

The sheriff also reported that Charlebois provided a statement to deputies indicating that she had pulled the trigger. She remains in custody at the Yalobusha County Detention Center.
Other agencies responding to the campground Thursday included the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and Yalobusha EMS.
