CHARLESTON – An Oakland man charged in the August 2023 shooting death of a Coffeeville woman has been indicted by a Tallahatchie County grand jury.
Bobby Arnez Taylor, 42, of 89 County Road 601, Oakland, faces charges of first-degree murder, attempt to commit murder and grand larceny of a motor vehicle. The three-count mid-June indictment stems from an Aug. 17, 2023, early-morning shooting that claimed the life of Hallie Mae Sapp Robertson, 42, of County Road 212, Coffeeville.
Robertson was shot once in the head, and her body was found shortly before 4 a.m. in a gravel road directly behind Oakland 1 Stop convenience store, which sits on the south side of Highway 32 in Tallahatchie County, just a stone’s throw from the Yalobusha County line near Oakland.
In addition to the alleged murder, Taylor is accused of shooting at a man who reportedly was a fleeing witness to the crime. The man later told officials that Taylor had driven from the scene in the victim’s 2017 Ford Escape, which was found abandoned near Taylor’s residence.
On July 26, Taylor entered a plea of not guilty on all charges. During a pretrial scheduling hearing on Aug. 8, Circuit Judge Jimmy McClure ordered the case set for trial on Oct. 7.
