WATER VALLEY – A Water Valley man faces drug trafficking charges after officers discovered 140 pills of alleged ecstasy in his vehicle following a traffic stop on July 3. Water Valley Police Chief Jason Mangrum reported Lee Russell Mix, 40, of Water Valley was charged with drug trafficking and felony possession of marijuana with intent.
Mix ran a red light at the intersection of Blackmur Drive and Main Street and was stopped at 8:18 p.m. He told officers he had a small amount of marijuana inside the vehicle. A search of the vehicle uncovered approximately 342 grams of marijuana, as well as 140 pills believed to be ecstasy. Officers also found digital scales, packaging materials, and individually bagged marijuana.
Mix was arrested and booked in the Yalobusha County Detention Center and later released on a $100,000 bond.
Other arrests reported by the chief:
• On July 10, Terry Nicholas Paul St. Romain, 30, of Water Valley, was arrested after a traffic stop for not wearing a seatbelt. As the officer approached the vehicle, St. Romain spontaneously stated that someone had been smoking marijuana in his vehicle. The officer observed that he was the only person in the vehicle. The officer also smelled marijuana and located a small amount of suspected marijuana along with paraphernalia, including a grinder, tray, and pipe. Field sobriety tests were conducted, and St. Romain was charged with DUI – Other (first offense).
• On July 5, Qyterrius Alexander of Hampton, Ga., was arrested for DUI – first offense and disregard of a traffic Control device after officers saw his vehicle run a stop sign at Central and North Court. Officers detected an odor of alcohol and launched a DUI investigation. Alexander was booked in the Yalobusha County Detention Center.
Juvenile Cases
• On the night of July 4, officers responded to Davidson Street for reports of people shooting fireworks toward homes. While officers were speaking to individuals at the scene, a vehicle with five occupants pulled up behind the patrol vehicle.
Two juveniles then threw lit fireworks into the vehicle and officers witnessed the explosion. One occupant sustained serious burns, while four others received minor injuries. Though all declined treatment at the scene, several later sought medical attention, including one who was transferred to a burn center in Memphis.
The two juveniles, ages 16 and 17, will be prosecuted in youth court for aggravated assault and malicious mischief.
• At 3:36 a.m. on July 3, officers responded to a two-vehicle crash on Calhoun Street, near the laundromat. The drivers—both 16 years old—had left the same residence where they had allegedly been smoking marijuana. The drivers then took separate routes before colliding.
One driver failed to stop at the end of Douglas Street, pulling into the path of the other vehicle traveling on Calhoun Street.
Both juveniles admitted to smoking marijuana prior to the crash and showed signs of impairment. They were released to their parents and will be prosecuted in youth court. Both vehicles sustained disabling damage and were towed from the scene.
