J.R. Dukes and his friend, Ashlee Julian, visited J.R.’s grandmother, Diane Dukes, on Thursday. Ashlee heads back to Ole Miss soon for her final year in the nursing program, where she’ll earn her bachelor’s degree. Ashlee is not only pretty—she’s smart, too, and even out-fishes J.R. on a good day!
Sheryn Goode’s daughter, Dana Huffman, along with son-in-law Lee and grandson Fischer, came for a day visit. They enjoyed a good lunch at the Catfish Hut. Fischer is getting ready to return to Arkansas State in the middle of the month. He’s been there all summer at basketball training camp and will soon be back for classes.
Martha Box made it up the steps into Tillatoba Baptist Church Sunday morning. She said it was such a joy to walk in with Bro. Harris.
“We’ve missed worshiping with our friends and neighbors these past seven months—and what a worship service it was! From the Spirit-filled singing of ‘Standing on Holy Ground’ to Pastor Ricky’s powerful message, the Lord’s presence was felt throughout the sanctuary,” Martha said.
Now for the most exciting day of Martha’s week—she visited the Ole Country Store for a couple of great meals.
“Good country cooking and no dishes to clean up! Sister Joyce and I gave in to our want-to’s and went to the Catfish Hut at Enid yesterday. It was so good I saved half and brought it home for lunch today.
Yes ma’am, it heated up just fine,” Martha added.
“Hopefully I’m getting back to my Superwoman status. My great-nephews, Wyatt and Ryder, did a wonderful job helping me clean and organize the porch. Those two are real men in the making,” Martha also said.
Anna Pullen took Joanna and Andy Pullen to the Watermelon Carnival on Saturday. Anna’s sister, Amber Jameson, and her two sons went along too. They had a good time and enjoyed a meal at the Mexican restaurant. Anna said there were a lot of nice things over there.
David and I visited our grandson, Waylon Dukes, and his children, Haven Rose and Waylon Jr., on Sunday afternoon. Haven Rose asked, “Grandmother, give me your phone so I can look at my pictures.” I told her there were a lot of pictures on there, including some of her little brother. She said,
“Oh, I just wanna look at mine.” When I got home, I opened my phone, and there she was—she’d changed the notification photo to her own! She’s only five years old, but smart as can be with phones, iPads, and the TV. She and her cousin, Jo Pullen, start back to school this week. Thursday is meet-the-teacher day, and Friday is the first half-day. Where has the summer gone?
Ginger Harrison says not much is going on right now. Her son, Jake, filled in as music leader at Pine Grove this week and sang a special. Ginger sent me a video—and let me tell you, Jake can sing!

Diane Dukes visited Blooming Hills Farm for their fall opening and managed to do a little Christmas shopping. “I’ve been Christmas shopping since July,” Diane said. “My closet can tell!”
Bradley Holliday and Robert Selobdt of Grenada spent the night with John Luke Rose to help him celebrate his 12th birthday. They enjoyed dinner at No Way Jose and caught a movie.
