Christian love and sympathy is extended to the family of Gerald Wiggins of Oakland. Gerald passed away on August 16 after a long battle with kidney cancer. He leaves one daughter, Larissa, and three grandchildren.
Faye and Kristie Hartley enjoyed a short vacation to Pensacola, Fla., this past weekend.
James Lee Sturdivant had a blast at his birthday party Saturday. His mom, Melissa Sturdivant, said she was thankful for the help from Morgan Casiday, Margaret Hopper Casiday, and Mason Casiday. Martha Box noted that if time was not flying by so fast, “we would burn up.”
“Hotter than Dixie, too hot for this ole gal!” she added.
Martha shared, “No real news, I just keep working on me. Went out shopping with sister Joyce Saturday. Yep, too hot. We had so many silly wrong things go on. We ate, shopped at one store, and came home. Son-in-law Phil and son Ben came by and did a bit of work for me. So glad I can count on them. Granddaughters Rissa and Lilly stopped by and gave me some much-needed hugs. That evening I went to Grenada and the first place was closed due to air conditioning failure. I started to turn into Walmart and cops came flying out, and right at the exit more cops and a man in handcuffs. Too much excitement for me, so I just came home!”
She also said she had a wonderful visit at Willow Springs Assembly of God. “I walked in just a few minutes late and Bro. Tommy Darby called out my name and told me not to forget the 26th. After church I was told it will be a good gathering and eating that day. And here I am on a low-calorie, low-carb diet!
Your writer’s daughter, Donna, drove me to Oxford Wednesday for two different doctors’ appointments. Between appointments, we ate lunch and did a little shopping. An enjoyable time, even with the doctors’ appointments. After returning home and a short nap, I started crocheting and stopped at midnight and went to bed. Since I can’t drive my car anymore, being on oxygen full-time, I’m pretty well confined at home, so I’ve been crocheting a lot, and it relaxes me.
Happy birthday wishes to Scotty Chambers on the 22nd; Benny Walker, Lily Whitaker, Phillip Bell, and Geneva Kelly on the 23rd; Annette Corley, Pat Brooks, and Heath Crawford on the 24th; and Haven Rose Dukes, my great-granddaughter, who celebrates her 5th birthday on the 26th. May you all have a wonderful time celebrating your special day.
Diane Dukes reported that Cossar State Park had a good turnout for the Motorcycle Show. The Bondage Breakaz Motorcycle Club joined them. Street Cuisine food truck and Buckley’s Shaved Ice were there, Luther Folson brought the bouncy houses, and Tillatoba’s own DarbysOwn Wood ‘N Stone was represented. Music was provided by DJs Mix-A-Tac and Dream Maker.
Diane also visited Annie Turner and Josh Saturday and brought them a caramel cake.
Cossar State Park will host bingo on Wednesday, August 20. Bingo is held every third Wednesday of the month, with Ping Pong Paris calling the numbers.
Lauri McCullars enjoyed a weekend visit from her nephew and his family. They attended the Motorcycle Show, sampled the food, and had the best time. Lauri says Street Cuisine has the best smash burger ever. They will be in Charleston tomorrow, August 19, on Clay Street. Try them out and you won’t be disappointed.
Thought for the Day: “The most important thing is to enjoy your life — to be happy — it’s all that matters.”
