Hello and welcome back to Inside the Blue and White! I’m so happy you’re back reading this week’s news at Water Valley High School. There are a lot of exciting happenings.
Golf hit it off this week! They played their first 18-hole match at Mallard Pointe Golf Course in Sardis. The Devil boys team lagged behind in this tournament, shooting a collective 383 among the top four scorers. The top four were Shane French and Bowen West, both with a 93 on the day. Next was Allen Paysinger with a 98 and Lucian Lindsey shot a 99. The girls that day only included Amelia Thomas, who finished the 18-hole round with a 123. The boys are scheduled for yet another 18-hole match, this time at Dogwoods Golf Course in Grenada. Wish them luck as preparations continue for district and hopefully state tournaments soon!

Braylon Benson celebrates the victory after the Blue Devils won the Railroad Classic Friday night at Bobby Clark Field.
Water Valley dominated Coffeeville in a Friday night showdown, the ole classic Railroad Rivalry, 55–6! The theme was Black Out for the game, and at school it was PJs! We had a pep rally during seventh period to get everyone ready for this easy match. When the team was getting ready to run out Friday night, the Water Valley Bulldogs players got to run out first. Water Valley absolutely swept. Towards the end, the junior varsity kiddos had their chance to shine. Next week’s game is against Eupora at home, and the game theme is military appreciation. The theme for school is “Lei Down the Eagles.” Wear Hawaiian attire!
Also, mentioning the Water Valley Bulldogs: make sure you support the kids as they take on Greenwood. They are the future of our football team!
Volleyball was back at it last week! We played Strayhorn in a district game and swept them in three sets. We are second in the district, behind East Union.
Last Thursday night was Senior Night, and seniors were recognized between the junior varsity and varsity games. I asked the seniors how their Senior Night went. Kristaney Reed said, “My Senior Night was amazing. I had so much fun and support (shout out to my family). The energy of the game was positive the whole night. I got a few hits and dumps over. That was definitely a night to remember.”
Mariah Wilson stated, “Senior Night went amazingly well. From the support of my family to us playing like a disciplined team to come out with a win.”
Jayla also said, “It was an exciting night but also sad knowing that my volleyball time is coming to an end soon, and I’ll miss playing with the girls I started with. I enjoyed being recognized and seeing all the support we had!”
I’m also a senior on the team, and I’m so blessed to walk beside these girls. Six years with my best friends. I will forever cherish every little moment I’ve had on and off the court with my friends. Tuesday we play East Union at their place, and we face Strayhorn Thursday at home.
CTE classes are going strong. Crystee Hamilton, the teacher of the Health Science class, reported her students will start clinicals soon.
“Clinicals are when students shadow medical professionals in the community to learn more about health careers, job responsibilities, and skills in different areas of the medical field, and different work environments. We plan to start clinicals the week after fall break. Our first clinical areas are Yalobusha General Hospital, Cornerstone Rehab, Endurance Rehab, and the Odom Clinic. We will shadow physical therapists, registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, lab technicians, phlebotomists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, etc.”
Hamilton also stated, “Clinicals help students explore different medical careers to help them decide what medical career they may want to pursue in college. It also helps them make contacts for future jobs and meet college job shadowing requirements for applications.”
And that wraps it up for this week’s events! Another week at the campus of Water Valley High School. I hope you come back and read more about your students and kids!
(Editor’s Note: Allen Paysinger shot a 36 for first place, Shane French shot a 44 for 2nd place, and Bowen West shot a 46 for 3rd place in the golf meet against Grenada on Sept. 4)
