Mt. Liberty News
By Melissa Brooks
I hope everyone is doing well. I’ve been spending more time outside these days with the beautiful weather we’re having. We took full advantage of it Saturday and had a workday at the church. We did a great clean-out. We actually had fun even though we were all exhausted at the end of it. We tend to be pretty busy this time of year. On November 1, we will be having our annual All Saints Day Fall Festival. We will have a hayride, games, and a chili cookoff. It will be a lot of fun. Everyone is invited. I haven’t gotten confirmation on the time yet, but normally it’s from 4 to 8 p.m. I’ll have more details to come.
Bro. Grant Coffey brought a great message Sunday morning from Genesis 1:26-31. So many Christians ask the common question: What is my purpose? Why were we created? How are we different? We’re created in God’s image and likeness. That doesn’t mean God looks like we do. God gave us traits in His image—traits like being smart and creative. We have free will and morality. He gave us the capacity to love and the ability to reason. And we question our mortality. We’re the only thing created that knows our destiny. We know that someday we will die. We’re aware there is an eternity. Ecclesiastes 3:11 tells us God put it in our hearts that there is an eternity. We have a longing for something better beyond this.
The next question is, what are we made for? Acts 17:27-28 tells us we’re to seek the Lord. We’re to seek a relationship with Him. We’re to feel after Him. When we were unsaved, we were in the dark. We’re to grope after Him. Then, we’re to find God. He is the source of our life. He is our sustainer. He’s the reason for our existence. We are children of God. He gives us our identity. So how do we have a relationship with God? Through Jesus. Jesus gives us access to God. He broke the sin barrier that separates us from God. Jesus is the only way to God.
It was truly a beautiful message that got me thinking. There’s so much more I could do to strengthen my relationship with God. If you’re looking for a home church, we invite you to join us. Services start at 11 a.m.
