Welcome back to a spooky week inside the halls of Water Valley High School! The students were busy with all kinds of fun and excitement. It’s another great week ahead, so buckle up and enjoy the ride!
Football hit the road last week to take on East Union and came home with a huge victory! The Blue Devils fought hard and came out on top with an exciting 32–22 win, officially claiming the district championship. It was an incredible game filled with energy, teamwork, and determination from start to finish. The boys gave it their all, and their hard work throughout the season truly paid off. The support from fans, family, and the community helped push them to this well-earned achievement.
Now that Water Valley has secured the district title, the team has turned its focus to the playoffs. They’ll be facing Walnut at home this Friday night, and they’re ready to keep the momentum going. Let’s fill the stands, cheer them on loud and proud, and show our Blue Devil spirit!
The golf team wrapped up its season last weekend with a strong performance at the state competition, finishing ninth overall. While they didn’t take home the top trophy, the players brought their A-game and had an unforgettable experience on the course. Despite the chilly rain and tough conditions, the team’s energy stayed high and their spirits never wavered.
Bowen West led the team, finishing first with scores of 83 and 81.
Second for the team was Allen Paysinger, who shot 82 and 83.
Shane French placed third with rounds of 96 and 92, and Lucian Lindsey followed with 101 and 109.

Water Valley High School student Robert Swanner was decked out in full Halloween attire during the school’s celebration last week.
Paysinger shared his thoughts after the match, saying, “I think it went okay. I had a great time with the team even though we didn’t win. It’s really all about the experience and the fun you have with your teammates. Yes, it was raining and yes, it was cold, but we all kept playing through it.”
The state tournament was held at Brookhaven Country Club.
Halloween was a blast for everyone at school this year! The halls were filled with laughter, costumes, and lots of sweet treats as students showed off their creativity and Halloween spirit. From superheroes to spooky monsters, every costume brought smiles and excitement all around! Students traded candy and enjoyed a fun-filled party, making memories (and sugar highs) that will last all week. Many also had the chance to explore the Haunted Library, hosted by librarian Mrs. Jennifer Rotkiewicz, where thrills and chills made for the perfect Halloween adventure.
The Early Childhood Development classes joined in on the fun by hosting a Trunk or Treat for Mrs. Mangrum’s and Mrs. Porter’s classes. The kiddos had an unforgettable time collecting candy and admiring the decorated trunks, while the older students loved being part of such a festive event. Even the teachers got into the Halloween spirit—dressing up, sharing candy, and letting their guard down to enjoy the day with students. It was a wonderful reminder of how fun and creative our school community can be!
The junior high teams hit the road to Lafayette last week to take on some tough basketball competition. Even though they came up short on the scoreboard, they showed incredible heart, hustle, and determination—especially going up against a strong 5A school.
The 7th-grade boys battled hard, ending with a score of 9–24, while the 7th-grade girls gave it their all with nonstop energy and teamwork, finishing 0–41. The 8th-grade boys fought tooth and nail in a close game that ended 20–29, showing great defense and teamwork all the way through. Every game is a chance to grow, and these athletes are proving they’ve got the grit to keep improving.
Next up, they’ll face Charleston on the road, and the teams are ready to bring the heat. Let’s wish all our junior high players the best of luck as they continue their season—go show them what you’ve got!
And that wraps up the spooky week at Water Valley High School! We hope everyone had a spine-tingling Halloween. Come back next week for more exciting news from the students, staff, and sports teams. Thank you for reading, and have a great week!
