POINT PLEASANT — Authorities report the investigation into the death of 58-year-old Steven Cebuhar remains active as investigators continue waiting on forensic and digital evidence. Cebuhar’s body was found around 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 19, at his home on County Road 41 near the Point Pleasant community west of Oakland, according to Yalobusha County Coroner Ronnie Stark.
Stark said Cebuhar had been deceased for several days when he was discovered. His body was sent to the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Jackson for an autopsy.
Yalobusha County Sheriff’s Department investigator Taylor Byford said Cebuhar was originally from Missouri and was a military veteran. He was retired and had moved to Yalobusha County to be near his wife’s family.
Sheriff Jerimaine Gooch said his department is working the case carefully and methodically. The findings are expected to help determine whether the death resulted from intentional actions by Cebuhar or another party.
“This remains an active investigation and the biggest hurdle now is getting information from the crime lab,” Gooch told the Herald.
Byford said standard crime scene processing was completed, including efforts to gather DNA, fingerprints and other physical evidence.
“We are covering all bases,” Byford said. “We collected everything we could from the scene, and we are still doing warrants for information, particularly digital information.”
Gooch said additional details will be released once investigators receive the final autopsy report and crime lab findings.
