From 1986 – Junior 4-H Livestock judges from Yalobusha County at the Northwest District Livestock Show were (from left) Valerie Varner, – Coffeeville; Bart Robinson and Jonathan Buford, Oakland; and Paul Craig, Tillatoba, all members of the first place sheep judging team; Ladonna Yarbrough, Coffeeville, Tanya Bowen, Water Valley; and Mark Fielder, Coffeeville, all members of fifth place beef judging team.
20 Years—February 9, 2006 – Alexander Scott pled guilty to the August 16, 2003 murder and robbery of Bill Quinn. With a plea bargain, he would serve 25 years.
Don Giles, Yalobusha Habitat for Humanity board member, unloaded floor covering donated by Home Depot for a project in progress at Water Valley.
Yalobusha County 4-Hers did well at the Northwest Junior Livestock Judging Contest. First place Swine Team members were Marianna Turner, Autumn Jones, Buck Jones and Hunter Dorris. Fifth place team members were Carrie Carlisle, Hannah Hurdle, Chandler Stone and Izzy Hurdle. Autumn Jones was the high individual swine scorer in the district.
30 Years—February 8, 1996 – A two-inch layer of sleet and lots of snow blanketed the Water Valley area, completely shutting down business in Water Valley, late last week. City crew members used front end loaders to pick up the white stuff and haul it off in dump trucks, in order to clear the streets.
Ryan and Will Taylor were pictured on their sleds as they raced each other down Dupuy Street hill. Even father, Kenny, pulled out his sled and joined in the fun. Another family taking advantage of the rare large snow fall was the Thompsons. Playing in the snow on their three-wheeler were small son, Grant, with his parents, Teresa and Steve.
Mrs. Dollie Henderson and Mrs. Ophelia Buford, chair- persons for the event, announced that a Black History Program would be presented at Everdale Baptist Church.
40 Years—February 13, 1986 – Terry Allen, Water Valley High School’s Head Football Coach, was named Bruce’s STAR Teacher by Sabrina Johnson, a former student of Coach Allen.

Caroline Anderson was named 1986 Homecoming Queen at Kentucky Christian College. She is the oldest daughter of Bro. and Mrs. (Peggy) Ferman Anderson of Water Valley.
Hal Clark was named District “A” Academy “Coach of the Year.”
50 Years—February 12, 1976 – Dr. Joe Walker was presented a Distinguished Service Award for service in youth recreation. The award was presented by Richard Flowers, president of the Water Valley Jaycees.
The Water Valley Blue Devils were in the quarterfinals, after defeating the Lafayette Commodores.
Reigning “Miss Water Valley” Becky Reid will crown the new Miss Water Valley at the conclusion of the pageant on April 17. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Reid, Jr.
An accident-free crew at Columbia Gulf Transmission Company’s Banner Station was honored for having a mil- lion man hours without a disabling injury. These employees were D. B. Spivey, M. O. Brasher, N. M. Sexton, C. Rogers, A. P. Coker, A. C. Jenkins, Jr., J. R. Parker, M. E. Kinne, Archie Talford, J. D. Ivy, A. B. Turner, A. M. Clark, J. H. Glaspie, H. L. Wright, W. H. Simmons, R. D. Gable, G. W. McGregory, P. T. Ferguson,. D. G. Bramlitt, J. K. Gurner, P. A. Williams, W. K. Keen, W. C. Darnell, J. A. Ellard, R. V. Gordon, J. L. Luttrell, T. R. Vaughn, and J. R. Williams.
The Clifton Terrells were honored on their 60th wedding anniversary at an open house, hosted by their children.
60 Years—February 10, 1966 – Jan Childress, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Rodney Childress, was selected Betty Crocker Homemaker of the Year at Water Valley High School. (Her mother, Dale, was secretary at the school for many years, and father, Rodney, was agriculture teacher.)
Clint Howard Wright, 26, was killed after putting his mother-in-law aboard a train in Grenada. The train was in motion when he attempted to get off and somehow fell beneath the wheels where he was killed instantly.
Billy Riddell began his duties as assistant county agent at Coffeeville. He was a native of Acton, Tenn. and was a recent graduate of MSU.
Eight Water Valley High School Band students received “Superior Ratings” for their solo performances at the District Band Clinic. Playing solos were Debby Edwards, Dorothy Caulfield, Carol Sartain, Jackie Hughes, Ronnie Crenshaw, Marilyn Sager, John White, and Barron Caulfield.
70 Years—February 9, 1956 – Seaman Apprentice Charles King finished boot training at the U.S. Naval Training Center in San Diego, Calif. A graduate of Water Valley High School,
King is the son of Mrs. John A. Bell, and step-son of Mr. Bell.
Southern Bell Telephone Company was planning to convert the local system to dial operation.
In a “This is Your life” Program Water Valley civic organizations paid tribute to Louis Gafford for his many contributions to the area. Edward Shearer, Master of Ceremonies, introduced many people who told of events in Mr. Gafford’s life and then presented him with gifts from the various organizations. The Ruth Sunday School Class enjoyed a party at the church hosted by Mrs. Nell Gholson, class president. Their teacher, Mrs. W. C. Howard, was honored with a gift in celebration of her birthday.
80 Years—February 14, 1946 – Johnson Lancaster, secretary of Yalobusha Sporting Club, requested a permit to open a season on fishing for March and April at Sardis Reservoir. The request was granted and in addition the entire state was granted a fishing season for this period because of the local request.
Water Vallian Olin Gore was elected Grand Master of the Grand Council, Royal and Select Masters of Mississippi. Another Vallian, Edward Shearer was appointed fraternal correspondent for the Grand Lodge.
Miss Marguerite Groves of Water Valley and John Hunsicker of Akron, Ohio were married.
