Hello and welcome back to another week Inside the Blue and White! Spring break is underway and students are excited for a well-deserved week off. Last week was another busy week for both baseball and archery with several games and matches taking place.
Archery kicked off the week with Senior Night! Seniors recognized were Alexia Horton, Billy Jordan, Levi Bryant, Jonkevin Shipp, Matthew Surrette and Bella Humphreys. The team competed against Charleston and Calhoun, with some great scores posted. The top shooters of the night were Bella Humphreys with a 277 and Adalynn McCluskey with another strong performance of 276. Then on the 5th, the team traveled to Lafayette for another match. The archers will head to North Half on the 24th!
Baseball played Bruce at home and came away with a big 11–6 win. Allen Paysinger had an exciting moment in the game, hitting a home run for the Blue Devils! The team then traveled to Bruce for another matchup and secured another victory, winning 8–5. Spring break games include North Pontotoc on Tuesday and Winona on Friday.
Be sure to wish the team the best of luck as they continue their strong season!
The Water Valley High School Band recently attended its state evaluations and performed very well. It received an Excellent rating in concert evaluation and a Superior rating in sight reading. The Superior rating in sight reading is especially exciting because students are given a piece of music they have never seen before. They are allowed to study it for only eight minutes before performing it for the judges for the very first time. This makes the achievement even more impressive and shows the band’s strong musicianship and preparation.
The Water Valley School Bands recently celebrated a generous donation to their program from Lucia Holloway. The funds will help support several of the band’s goals, including purchasing new uniforms, supplies, and instruments, as well as helping students attend district workshops and future local events
That concludes this week’s news inside the halls of Water Valley High School! Students are heading into a well-deserved spring break, and I’m sure everyone is excited to enjoy a little time off. Thank you for reading this week’s column. I hope everyone has a fun and relaxing spring break, and maybe even makes a trip down to Turnage’s to grab some ice cream!
I’ll catch y’all next time with more news from around Water Valley High School.
