Richard was born Feb. 15, 1958, in Atlanta, Ga., to Ralph Edwin Sosebee Sr. and Anne Cooper Sosebee. He attended South Cobb High School in Austell, Georgia, and Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College in Tifton, Georgia. He was a member of Oakland Methodist Church in Oakland.

Richard spent much of his early career in the commercial and residential construction industry in Georgia. In 1996, he formed Sosebee Construction, building and remodeling homes, and moved to Oakland the same year. He later worked as a project manager for Ferguson Williams at Enid and Sardis lakes.

At the time of his death, Richard was vice president of operations at True North Emergency Management in Tallahassee, Fla. Those who worked with him valued his experience, composure and steady approach.

Richard was known for his smile, humor and friendly personality. He enjoyed Jimmy Buffett and country music, often listening from his screened porch, the pier or his boat. From a young age he developed a knack for fixing things and became known as a skilled handyman.

He especially enjoyed outdoor activities, including yard work and hunting, but fishing was his favorite pastime. He fished bass in the lakes of Georgia, crappie in Mississippi lakes and saltwater along Florida’s “Forgotten Coast.” In recent years he enjoyed cast netting mullet from the pier at his home in Panacea, Florida.

He also enjoyed cooking, particularly grilling fresh seafood. Friends and family often requested his fried deer steak with biscuits and gravy, deer jerky, grilled shrimp po-boys with homemade remoulade sauce, smoked mullet, country fried turkey bites and his well-known hush puppies.

Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Virginia “Ginny” Toole Sosebee; a son, Andrew Cooper Sosebee; a brother, Ralph Edwin “Eddie” Sosebee Jr. (Lynn) and daughter Lee; a sister, Jane Sosebee Buchanan (Stefan) and daughters Cole and Cason; brothers-in-law Mark Toole, John Toole (Valerie) and Hunt Toole and their children; aunts Martha Earnhart and Sara Williams Worden; and several cousins and great-nieces and nephews.
