Hello everyone, and welcome back to another amazing week! It’s been a great one as we continue getting closer to the end of the school year. April 21 officially marked just one month until graduation. How exciting is that? Now, let me fill you in on everything that’s been happening this week.
Archery has officially wrapped up its season. The team traveled to Starkville for the state competition on April 21. Even though we didn’t come out on top, everyone had an amazing time, and it was a great way to finish the season. The team placed fifth in the state, and the highest scorer was Levi Bryant, who shot a personal best of 280.
We also had our banquet on Friday. The top male archer was Matthew Surrette, and the top female archer was Bella Humphreys (me).
Putting the bow down for the very last time really makes my heart ache. But I know I did everything I could over the past six years, and I wouldn’t trade it for the world. I want to say thank you to Coach Steve Lindsey for always believing in me and helping me along the way. He took time out of his day every week to work with me for an hour. Through all the “I want to quit” moments and the “Wow, I’m actually doing amazing” moments, he pushed me to be the best I could be, and I couldn’t be more thankful.

The Water Valley Utilities Commission was among local businesses and entities to provide work shadowing opportunities for students. Superintendent Brandon Richardson is pictured give the seniors a hands-on demonstration.
Even though I wasn’t happy with the outcome of this season and didn’t shoot my best, I know what I’m capable of, and I gave it everything I had. I hope next year is the best yet for the team, and hopefully they bring home first place.
Baseball wrapped up their season at Hamilton earlier this month, closing out the year with a strong overall record and plenty to be proud of. Throughout the season, the team showed determination, growth, and resilience every time they stepped onto the field. From exciting wins to tough, close games, they continued to compete with heart and represent Water Valley with pride.
Although their season came to an end and they ultimately fell short of their final goal, the effort, teamwork, and dedication they showed all year long made it a successful and memorable season.
Seniors also had job shadowing this week. Job shadowing is when seniors go out into the community and observe careers they’re interested in. For example, a group of boys visited the Water Valley Utilities Commission and got a look at how linemen do their jobs. Others went to a doctor’s office, Turnage, and even helped local farmers. I want to say thank you to everyone who allowed us seniors to come out and get a feel for the real world.
Graduation is getting closer every day. Seniors’ Last Walk and Awards Day will be held May 14 in the high school gym at 10 a.m. The walk will begin at 8 a.m. at the elementary school. Parents are invited to the high school to walk with their student.
The 7th-11th grade Academic Awards will be held at the Civic Center on Tuesday, May 12. Students will receive an invitation for the ceremony.
The days are winding down, so make sure to create memories that will last. High school doesn’t last forever, and you’ll meet some of the best people there. Enjoy it while you can.
Well, that wraps up this exciting week. Be sure to come back next week for more news from Water Valley High School. Thanks for reading!
