WATER VALLEY – A pilot was injured Saturday afternoon when a small private airplane crashed at the Water Valley Municipal Airport.
The aircraft, identified by Yalobusha County Emergency Management Director Stewart Spence as N88JD, went down Saturday, Sept. 19, at the airport on Airways Drive.
The pilot was injured, but no fatalities were reported, according to an initial report from Spence. Yalobusha County EMS and firefighters responded to the scene.
The aircraft is a 1978 Cessna 182Q, a single-engine airplane.
Flight-tracking information shows the plane departed Columbus, Mississippi, around 3:21 p.m. Saturday and flew northwest toward Water Valley. The aircraft was descending as it approached the Water Valley area around 4 p.m.
The cause of the crash was not immediately known. Spence was at crash site Sunday morning with officials from the FAA.
