Are you ready for some football, Water Valley? Chamber project chairman Matt Dalton has the football in hand and is ready to kick off Tailgate in the Valley.
There’s nothing quite like a fall Saturday in Mississippi, especially when football is involved! Add some good food, a few lawn chairs, plenty of friends and neighbors, and you’ve got the makings of a wonderful day in Water Valley.
Fischer Properties Team of REMAX and the Water Valley Area Chamber of Commerce are bringing back Tailgate in the Valley for its second year on Saturday, October 24, at Shuffield Park, and everyone is invited to join the fun!
This year’s celebration features the Ole Miss Rebels taking on the Texas Longhorns, with the game shown on a big screen so fans can enjoy all the action together. Whether you cheer for the Rebels, pull for Texas, or just show up to enjoy the festivities, there’s a place for you at this tailgate.
The fun begins at 11 a.m. Bring your tent, set up your chairs, fire up the grill, and settle in for a day of football, music and good company. If cooking isn’t part of your game plan, no problem! Food trucks will be on hand with plenty of tasty options, or you can take a short stroll over to Main Street and pick up something to go from your favorite local restaurant.
Matt Dalton, chairman of the Chamber project, says the event is about much more than football.
“What made last year’s Tailgate in the Valley so special was that it felt like the kind of community gathering folks used to have. Families spread out their lawn chairs, kids were running around playing, and neighbors spent the afternoon visiting with one another. It was good, old-fashioned small-town fellowship, and that’s exactly what we hope to build on this year. I’ve already talked to several people from outside Water Valley who heard about last year’s event and are making plans to come experience it for themselves. That says a lot about what makes this town special. We have a great opportunity to show folks what Water Valley is all about, and I can’t think of a better way to do it than bringing families, friends, and neighbors together for a fall Saturday of football.”
And while football may be the reason for gathering, you certainly don’t have to know the difference between a touchdown and a touchback to have a good time. Sometimes the best part of a tailgate is everything happening off the field!
The Chamber extends a special thank-you to the businesses helping make this year’s Tailgate in the Valley possible: FNB Water Valley, Moorhead Off-Road Engineering, Brandon’s Dozer Service, TVIfiber and BankFirst. Their support makes it possible to bring events like this to our community.
The Chamber hopes Tailgate in the Valley will become another favorite fall tradition. No stadium crowds, no game-day traffic, just a big-screen football game and a beautiful Mississippi Saturday spent right here at home.
Sounds like a winning combination to us!
