Opponents Of Trailer Park Expansion Will Continue To Speak Out
Dear Editor:
I am totally confused by last week’s letter. The writer notes that when she and her husband moved to Water Valley “there were no signs referring to us as invaders.” One assumes this is a reference to the Golden Wing guys and leads me to the phrase “false equivalence” (describing a situation where there is a proposed likeness when, in fact, there is none.)
A couple’s decision to become residents and members of a community is not equivalent to a business entity’s decision to make money at the expense of that community. A decision to live in and maintain a historic home is not equivalent to hauling in a bunch of trailers. Devoting years of personal time, labor, and money to create a wonderful backyard garden is not equivalent to putting in some “landscaping” just to meet city (and hopefully soon, county) ordinances – especially when two of the investors own landscaping companies.
I suspect all residents of Water Valley would welcome any individual or business entity that wanted to enhance the efforts made so far to preserve our town’s historic character. Unfortunately, that is not Golden Wing’s business plan.
So, opponents of the trailer park will continue to speak out in support of our entire community – even those folks who stand to lose the most if this project were to become a reality.
