Teachers Of The Year Honored At School Board Meeting

The Water Valley School District Board of Trustees honored the 2017/18 teachers of the year at the high school and elementary school during their April 9 meeting.
Heather Bynum was named the 2017-18 Water Valley High School Teacher of the year. Bynum was selected by her peers and administrators because she is conscientious and hard-working, yet humble and kind. She teaches English I and seventh grade Honors English.
Her peers described her as always striving for ways to do better, both in and out of the classroom. She works each day to teach her lessons with excellence and to inspire her students to fulfill their potential.
“None of us ever know when a hand-written note will appear in our mailbox, offering beautiful words of encouragement or thanks to us,” reported WVHS Principal Drew Pitcock.
Christie Lowery was voted teacher of the year at Davidson Elementary School.
“Educators who are called to the profession of teaching are able to capture the hearts and minds of everyone they touch. They are able to inspire students to give a little more effort when struggling through a tough lesson. They encourage students to reach their fullest potential. DES is blessed to have a great educator who is able to reach the hearts and minds of the students at DES,” DES Principal Ezzard Beane reported about Lowery.
Lowery was also described as a hard-working teacher who goes the extra mile when serving her students. Lowery currently serves on the leadership team as the representative for the first grade.
