I have read with much concern the many debates about the push to legalize beer here in Water Valley. I live in Lafayette County, but as pastor of a church in Water Valley, it concerns me greatly.
My wife and I years ago were traveling through a (wet) county in central Mississippi only to be hit head on by one of the good ole beer drinking boys. We could have been killed. He was driving too fast, after too much consumption of beer. But I’m sure he knew when to quit, or had only one or two if you had asked him, or maybe just drank in moderation. I’ve heard all these brags. If a person has enough will power and self-control to do that: Just don’t drink to begin with.
(Proverbs 20:1 (NIV) “Wine is a mocker and beer a brawler, whoever is led astray by them is not wise.”
My church and I stand with Pastor Bain and First Baptist Church against this petition to legalize beer in Water Valley. Much prayer is needed on this matter.
A petition against beer is available in the foyer of our church.
